When it comes to weight loss or muscle gaining, people want fast solutions, “secret” strategies, and seek all sorts of shortcuts.
I believe that something else is missing. Something more important than all these.
I don’t know what motivates you right now but most people that start this sport are doing it mainly for a certain event in their life.
It can be a positive or a negative one.
You can consider this event as a trigger that targets your will and motivation to start wishing a change.
The type of events can offer you the start:
- Negative events: a breakup, obesity, not liking the way you look, etc.
- Positive events: the will to progress, getting your body to look better, a wedding, etc.
When it comes to losing weight or gaining muscle mass, you think about dieting, supplements, gym, training.
You could believe that these are the only things you need in order to succeed.
Very few people discuss about another aspect that’s more important than all of these combined: Mentality.
I considered this as the perfect moment to talk about Mentality and Habits.
You can have the perfect diet, have all the supplements in the world, and train 7 days a week. But if you don’t take care of your mentality, all of these can become useless in a very short time.
Diet, supplements, and training are important but the way you see these things matter the most.
With this in mind, I wanted to tell you about my 3 D’s for continuous weight loss and muscle gaining:
1.Decide To Learn A New Habit
Aristotle was saying: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
I tend to believe his is right. What does this mean?
It doesn’t matter that you want to lose weight or gain muscle mass, you will have to start from somewhere.
Decide that you want more from yourself.
Our life is the sum of all our habits. Good or bad habits. It all depends how you see them.
Washing your teeth in the morning is a habit. A positive habit. You know that each day when you wake up, you’ll have to wash your teeth.
For example, going to the gym is one of my positive habits.
Each Monday, Thursday, Friday, I know I have to train. It’s easy. It is almost as I engraved this habit into my mind.
First, you have to wish to create a new habit that will improve your body.
2.The Discipline To Practice The Habit
Mortimer J. Adler — ‘True freedom is impossible without a mind made free by discipline.’
It is not enough to wish for something if you are not disciplined enough in order to practice it. In all these years of training, I stumbled upon thousands and thousands of people.
Most of them were telling me they decided to start a healthy life, go to a gym, get better, yada yada…
Most of them were just talkers.
Or they were temporary motivated by the drive of doing something new but quickly quit once they saw that training and dieting doesn’t mean instant results.
Why would you want to go to a gym for 1 month, quit, and then restart 1 year later just to see yourself at the starting point AGAIN?
That’s how most people are doing.
Think about all the progress you are losing by not following your decision. By not maintaining consistency.
That’s a lack of discipline to practice the habit you decided to learn.
3.Determination To Continue Practicing Until The Habit Stays With You
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times – Bruce Lee
Determination and motivation can help you go towards something you wish to achieve.
But practicing the skills required to drive you there takes time.
My transformation from 63 to 83 kg’s in 6 years wouldn’t be possible if it were not for practicing the habit of training and dieting consistently. It wouldn’t be possible for me to look like this if I had quit in the process.
Had a long period of breaks from christmas to today. Still maintaining #winteraesthetics Will post the winners of the christmas contest today “Thou shall not get fat because of holidays” You can keep a lean look even if you eat cakes for christmas. Tomorrow i.ll post a tribute photo to Frank Zane #me #challenge #instadaily #art #gym #weightloss #fatloss #fitnessmodel #fitnessaddict #fitspo #bodybuilding #socialenvy #photooftheday #health #healthy #instahealth #healthychoices #active #strong #motivation #instagood #determination #lifestyle #diet #getfit #shredded #picoftheday
I started getfitmindset.com with that transformation movie because the main idea for me is to motivate you to succeed.
The body that I currently have is the sum of all the effort I made inside a gym and also at home. What I’ll get in the future, it will be the sum of all my efforts until then.
Let’s say that you don’t currently see this sport as something you’ll do all your life.
Even so, a temporary habit as going to a gym for a certain goal, is certainly something good for you.
A positive habit.
Anything that’s positive for your life, is an improvement. If you are determined to continue the habit at least for a while, you shall see results.
As a short conclusion to what I talked about until now, the 3 D’s for constant weight loss or muscle gaining, are:
- Decide you want to learn a new habit
- The discipline to practice the new habit
- Determination to continue practicing the new habit until it remains with you
Share this article with your friends. If you know someone that can’t form the habit of training and dieting, send them a link to this article.
What about you? Have you decided? What is it that you will do? Are you disciplined enough so to practice the new habit?
